Kızılçukur – Red Valley – Çavuşin

Characteristics of the Route:

The route starts in an enchanting riot of colours and immediately starts descending on a path to St. Simeon's hermitage in Kizilcukur. Passing by the early-period church, which has similar colours to the valley, the route follows the paths going down the tunnels through the vineyards. Before reaching Cavusin, the route passes by a small basilica, offers an iconic view of fairy chimneys, and ends in the nostalgic streets of the town.

Notes to Travelers:

You can visit the churches on the route, free of charge.

If you start cycling at sunrise, you can ride with hot air balloons above you.

If you are hiking in early spring, you can see the Thymus cappadocicus, one of the endemic plants of Cappadocia, blooming throughout the spring, Iris galatica (Kaba navruz) in March, Iris caucasica (Turk Navruzu) in April, and Euphorbia anacampseros subsp. Anacamseros (sutluagu) between March and August.

You can visit the Seljuk Mosque in Cavusin Town, the charming "historical house" on the cobblestone road that goes up by the mosque, and St. John the Baptist Chapel (Aziz Yahya Kilisesi), which you will reach after a few minutes' walk at the end of the road. You can have pleasant moments on the plateau above St. John the Baptist Chapel, which offers wonderful photos with its impressive view.

There is no entry fee to the churches on the route.

You can find beverages suitable to your taste such as tea, coffee, and fruit juice in the modest cafes in Kizilcukur. You can visit St. Theodoros Trion Church and St. Simeon's hermitage, located on the church, free of charge.

Even though you can find water on the route, keep your water bottle full.
